AAT Parents and Coaches
Lucille and I are deeply saddened to inform you on the tragic accident that took the life of Fred Beers yesterday. We want to express our sincere condolences and our prayers and thoughts go out to Anita and Daniel Beers on the passing of Coach Fred Beers. Bernalillo County Sherriff Officer, Lt. Fred Beers passed away in a helicopter crash late Saturday evening while returning home from an assignment to assist in fighting a fire near Las Vegas, NM. Fred along with two other BCSO officers and one BCFD person died in the crash on their return flight home. Our prayers and thoughts also go out to all families that lost loved ones on this flight. Please keep those families along with Anita and Daniel in your prayers and thoughts as they navigate through this difficult time. The path ahead will be very difficult for all the families and I want Anita and Daniel to know that we and the entire AAT family will be there for them. More information on the accident is available on the news.
Fred and Anita registered Daniel, now 14, to run with AAT in the spring of 2015. Fred helped coach AAT in both track and cross country since 2015. His work schedule made it difficult for Fred to coach track this spring making only one practice but last fall Fred was there for all the athletes whenever his work schedule would allow. Fred always looked over the athletes while they were out on the trails in Bear Canyon Arroyo and was always the last person in making sure every athlete made it back safely to the top of the dam. Fred enjoyed working out and he would always run at practice to get his running in and participate in running events around the country. Lucille and I really appreciated all the time and effort Fred put into coaching all the AAT athletes. Anita was always there for us too helping us at both our AAT track and cross country meets. She volunteered to be the medical person, check in clerk, packet pick up, overseeing the team tent and all the other tasks needed to make our team and meets successful. Anita and Fred also helped USATFNM with the DN track scrimmages at the start of each track season and state championship TF and XC meets. They would always show up for AAT team registrations at the start of each track and XC season that Daniel ran. They were committed to providing Daniel with opportunities to participate in running by taking him to all the state, regional and national track and cross country meets that Daniel qualified for. They were great parents and a wonderful family.
Fred will be greatly missed. Lucille and I have lost a very good friend and one we enjoyed spending time with. Today our hearts are broken and we are very sad, left with that empty feeling that comes with the loss of a good friend and an AAT family member. The passing of two AAT family members, over the past 3 weeks have been hard on everyone. We will do everything we can to help Anita and Daniel during this difficult time and the years to follow. I understand BCSO will provide them with help and support during their hour of grief and I want Anita and Daniel to know that the AAT family will also be there for them.
